Crocuses family is composed of about 80 species. Growing up in the Mediterranean, Central and Eastern Europe, Central Asia and the Caucasus. Also called saffron – a perennial plant with leaves, narrow shape, which extends along the white stripe. Some crocus leaves grow up to or simultaneously with the beginning of flowering, but most germinate when saffron bud. They are white, cream, gold, yellow, purple, blue, purple, violet, purple color. Sometimes there are stripes or rainbow-colored blossoms.

This decorative culture, today there are many views of crocus, particularly common are the Dutch, their inflorescence is very large, 13 cm. Saffron can grow in a sunny spot, and shady, with moderate ground humidity, the basic requirement for the normal life of saffron, not to it was stagnation of water in the soil.

There are two groups of crocuses that differ in flowering time is spring and autumn. The first group is growing in April and May: yellow crocus, spring, golden-flowered, angustifolia, Tomasini. They begin to bloom as soon as the snow melts for two weeks at least and up to a month at most. One stalk can grow several inflorescences (1-3) of different colors. The second group is growing in September and October: crocus planting, beautiful. Crocus can have from 5 to 10 flowers before the leaves. The first three classes are inflorescences of lilac color with various shades and crocus Sharoyan – bright orange. Plants are put in the soil at a depth of three heights corms, at a distance of 5-7 cm.

The meticulous care is not needed. Winter-hardy, and they do not have shelter. We are pleased to accept manure. On one plot can be grown for about 4-5 years. Diseases that afflict saffron – rust, root rot, nematodes. Parasites – aphids, mites onion root, rodents.
