Karakul sheep, breed description, characteristics and photos

Karakul sheep breed belongs to the oldest. Popular in Kazakhstan and in general – in the mountainous regions of Ukraine and Russia.

Karakul sheep are very hardy, not demanding food, easy to get used to any climate, except for areas with high humidity levels. In adults, the head elongated nose noticeably humped, long and pendulous ears, legs are thin and strong hooves.

Live weight in females 45 – 50 kg, males 60 – 70 kg. Wool is thick, uniform, length 8 – 9 cm. In the spring shearing the animal is up to 2 kg and 1.3 kg in the fall, adult animals have gray hair. On the head, ears and paws wool black, shiny, after the animal turns and a half years, beginning to turn gray, grow hair without color.

There are color karakul sheep – black, gray, color. Highly appreciated golden animals, silver colors when hair is black, and the tips have a light color.

From sheep’s milk cheese is prepared.
