Dairy cows Kostroma breed, photos, description, characteristic for home breeding

Kostroma breed of cattle originated in 1945 by crossing several different breeds together. Residents planted these rocks as a milk-meat. Cows of this breed is characterized by large size and a large weight. Due to rapid growth and a great weight to be appreciated not only for milk production, but also as a beef breed.

The coat is short of various shades of gray with a few bright spots on the abdomen. Adult specimens of cows reached 600 kg, bulls – 900 kg. Mean milk yield for the year – 5,000 kg of milk. Milk fat-free, so breeders have thrown their hand at increasing the fat content of milk of cows of Kostroma.

If grown for meat production, then castrated bulls quickly reach a large weight at the age of 1.5 years already weigh about half a ton.

Nowadays, this breed is popular in Ukraine, Russia and Belarus.
